5 Alternatives When You’re Stuck Without a Toothbrush

When you are on the go, you don’t always have the time to brush your teeth after a meal. However, it is important to clean your teeth after eating. Luckily, there are some innovative methods you can use to clean your teeth without brushing them. Here are five alternatives when you’re stuck without a toothbrush.

1. Teeth Wipes

When you are in a rush without the time to brush, teeth wipes will come in handy. These nifty little cleaning sleeves fit over your fingers. You put one on your index finger and then you rub your finger all over your teeth to remove food particles that are stuck on your teeth. People can easily carry a packet of teeth wipes with them for those times they don’t have access to a toothbrush.

2. Chewing Gum

Sugar-free chewing gum has long been recommended by dentists as an alternative to brushing. You can pop in a piece of gum when you are done eating, and within a few minutes of chewing your teeth will be much cleaner. As a bonus, you will have fresh breath with a minty or fruity flavor when you chew gum.

3. Paper Towels

If you have toothpaste but are missing a toothbrush, you can use paper towels as an alternative in a pinch. A leading Beaverton dentist recommends wrapping the paper towel around your index finger, and then getting it damp. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the paper towel, and you will be ready to brush with it. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to keep the paper towel from shredding in your mouth. This method works best when you use thick paper towels.

4. Rinse Your Mouth

When you are done eating a meal, you should get into the habit of swishing a beverage around your mouth. Water works best, but any beverage will do in a pinch. Swish the liquid around your mouth for at least 30 seconds, and then spit it out. You should repeat if necessary. If you want to kick this method up a notch, you can use mouthwash to rinse your mouth. When you get into this habit, it will reduce the chances of cavities when you go to visit the dentist.

5. Chew on a Twig

Before toothbrushes were invented, people often chewed on twigs to clean their teeth. This method still works quite well. You can make use of it when you are camping if you forget to bring your toothbrush.
