While buying a car, if fuel economy is all that you care, then the Volkswagen’s TDI diesel hatchbacks will be the best choice. But what if you are not a VW admirer yet crave for maximum diesel mileage? Well, no worries as Chevrolet has come up with an answer. The 2014 Chevy Cruze diesel is all set to be launched at Chicago Auto Show in February. The GM authority has confirmed that the new diesel Cruze will be adorned with an Eco-D badge, and will be available in the market from the second quarter of 2013. It is predicted that the car might hit the showrooms sometime between the month of May or June.
At Chicago Auto Show, the details of the Eco-D engine and its fuel economy will be released. We all know that the prime competitor of Chevy Cruze diesel would be Volkswagen Jetta TDI and Chevy needs to match the wondrous numbers of Jetta TDI and win over the VW’s price as well for making its mark. However, Chevy’s under the hood secrets are yet to be revealed. It is being predicted that Cruze Eco-D might use the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engines which produce 160 hp and 265 lb-ft, thus giving it 20 hp and 29 lb-ft more than the VW Jetta.
The fact that still leaves us guessing is whether Cruze Eco-D can succeed in overpowering Volkswagen’s compression-ignition monopoly? We’ll have to wait till February 8th, when Chevy Cruze Eco-D makes its debut.
